| I just started rehearsals for An Inspector Calls. They are having me experiment with several different accents (i.e. Scottish, Irish, Brouge...) It will be intense, the show is done in a very expressionistic fashion (almost Brechtian) so I think this will be a new kind of theater to see from me. Classes continue to demand a lot from me, but I am stepping up the pace to represent for all my peeps! I am also working on an indie film called THE NOBEL LIE. And I am doing several Shakespeare scenes for various directing classes that showcase unique interpratations of older works. Oh, and I am having fun...there is nothing else I would rather be doing. That's a good comfort in this life. Angela is having a similar experience out there in Martha's Vineyard. She is really turning heads in the music biz...and I am so proud of her. My folks and brothers are all off with there own pursuits, and they are meeting with equal trials and successes. It is so comforting to know that we all are fighting for what we believe in, and I encourage all who read this to also be courageous and fight the good fight. Keep in touch. Peace... | | |
| I am back in Virginia which means I am back on Xanga. I know a lot of you are doing the face book thing, but I am a non-conformist. I don't care if it is easier to stalk people, I am just doing the Xanga thing...Anyway, I am very busy with NOISES OFF. This is the hardest show that I have ever done, but it will prove to be one of the best as well. Classes are entertaining--I have some film classes as well as creative make-up and Sword and Quarterstaff fighting. Jon Regier has joined me up here to try his luck in the area...pray for his job search and that his time here will be filled with promise and hope. Landon Tucker will also be joining us up here soon (heck, we might as well start improv shows in my living room). I am happy, and I am missing Angela--who is out in Martha's Vineyard and doing very well. She is rubbing shoulders with the big wigs in the music buisness, and she is learning much about how to really sell a good musician. I am tired, and I will now sleep...if you would like to send anything to us MIND YOUR HEAD players...just send it to our new address which is... 6304 Blakely Square Apt. # 101J Virginia Beach, VA, 23464 | | |
| It is getting down to the wire around here. I passed my SPT's which means that I have been officially recognized by the Society of American Fight Directors to teach and choreograph Unarmed Stage Combat. That is a good thing to put on the old resume. I will hopefully get certified in a few weapons during my time here at Regent, but this is a good start. The Virginia Beach Bash was intense--I learned from tons of Fight Directors all sorts of techniques in weapon fighting for screen and stage. Everything from Broadsword, Rapier and Dagger, Shield, Whip, Shoalin and Quarter Staff, and many others.
I have also had many opportunities to help Film Students out with their final projects--meaning that this gives me a lot of time being on camera and working with several people (many of whom requested me for their shoots). All this to say that I have been receiving nothing but encouragement to continue on towards the goal that God has placed in my life. I wonder even if something were to come along to really knock me down if that would only encourage me to do better anyway. God is good, isn't He. I just have to remember that while I am writing a ton for class or memorizing tons of lines for my scene work. We open HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING very soon, and it is exciting to rehearse on the main stage with that one. With all the fight class work I have been taking, the thing that seems to be kicking my butt the most is the dance choreography--HOLY COW! But such is life, I will just say all my bruises came from a battle axe or something cool like that.
I am working hard on getting all my summer plans lined up--so far Landon, Jon and I will be touring with our Improv group MIND YOUR HEAD over the summer and I will have an opportunity to teach acting in Derby. Let me know what your summer plans are and who is going to be around for this summer...it is going to be great, I can promise you that. Blessings...

Still keeping busy up here in Virginia. I am in my Modular Week course of Sword&Shield Class with the fight director/Sword Master of many films from Troy to Gladiator. It is kicking my butt, and I am loving it. Imaginary Invalid is into its second week, and we have been getting tons of laughs and lots of praise. God is still rocking it out at Regent!
| Well, it was great to come home over Spring Break, even while everyone else was so busy. I got to see a great play, have lots of fun with my friends, get some homework done, and be with Angela.
We open our show of Imaginary Invalid this coming week. I am unbelievably busy with tech rehearsals for that, and musical rehearsals for How to Succeed...Between our comedia del arte classes and the comedy, I think I have done more prat falls this week than I have my entire life. There is a specific enterance where I dive off of a platformed windowsill into a roll right onto stage. Comedy is supposed to sell the illusion that everything we do is effortless...well, I'm telling you...IT ISN'T! But it's the life of an actor.
If that doesn't kill me, I am sure fight class will finish me off. We are working on disarming techniques in class, so if any of you try to attack me with a banana or something then you had better watch out. Sure I think that I am busy, but when I talk to Angela on the phone, I learn that maybe I don't have it so bad. She is the busy one...WOW! But she is handling all of the craziness with dignity and grace (her summer application, Beth Moore confrence, the play, CMC, Choir Tour, and a partridge in a pear tree).
Joe Skillen came up here for a week for some of his seminary classes, so it was good to hang out with him and reminise--and watch the occasional late night movie. My summer plans are precariously up in the air, but I have a few leads for things to do--one thing is for sure though, I will be in Wichita for at least part of the summer. Even my advisor said that I would be crazy to spend any more time away from my fiance than I have too. I must say I agree with him, and also being with my family and all my Asbury/Tabor friends will be great too. Blessings to you all, know that you are deep in my prayers, and keep living a life of signifigance.
